An another fourth of July approaches as our country is involved in another conflict. Regardless of what you think about the war on terrorism or the war in the Iraq it is important that we reflect the on the quality and the size of the United States.
I know America bashing a popular sport since been long before I came. But the height of Viet Nam begins my frame of reference in my high school days, while. I remember many of the same protests we hear today about America is an imperialist power how we destroy the environment and suppress as we our own people over. And I ask myself, "nothing has changed?" "We are not better than we were or we were ever really as bad as this?"
Certainly, is not utopian society where no one suffers and everybody wins all the time. I don't think that such a place exists on Earth... or ever could. But I think the United States is as close as mankind ever has come to create anything close to a self-sustaining society, freedom, opportunity and quality in both the world and their own citizens illustrates.
Although many say the destruction of America and its ideal predictions, I predicted the opposite. Some display America as the land of greed; Corruption; Racism; Hostility towards the environment, human rights and the poor, and war mongering imperialism. People at the other end of the spectrum warn of pending doom for the moral decay, our bloated, inefficient Government, pacifism, the ACLU and one about far-reaching justice. Unfortunately, see both sides living solutions to their perceived problems with the United States Government participation in the people further personal and business.
America is a nation good and noble. With few exceptions, we have always been a good world citizen. Always when tragedy strikes, the world looks to America and America responds. If there is a crisis (real or perceived) sees the world to America to provide scientists respond workers, military or financial support and America. Whether it is the United Nations, the World Bank or a variety of other international organizations, the majority of their funding from the United States provided. America is a good world neighbor and a good country. America is good.
America is great. People from around the world risk life, limb and wealth to themselves and their families America to get. You know that if you can get only to America, you have a chance to build a life free of fear, disease and tyranny. Our country was founded on the premise that "all men (mankind) were created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, among them live freedom and the pursuit of happiness". From our Declaration of independence, the American ideal on our Constitution that limits the powers of the Government and biased in favor of individual freedom and responsibility was (and is) all about America says "You can!"
In America you can speak against your Government and political leaders without fear of retaliation, out. In America, may (or may not) worship as you please. In America can a poor child housing grew up in Government or as an immigrant farm workers to start millionaire in your own business. In America you can dream. You can as your imagination can be or be sorry and lazy as you want to be great. In America, opportunity thrives as innovation rarely waits for the Government. In America get rich from a good idea by developing your skills, know and talent or. In America, you can determine your own future. Despite our shortcomings, errors, and stains, America is a great country. Simply put, America is great.
At this independence day weekend, please take a moment to America's size reflect. Think about it in terms that reflect and affect your own life that around and the world at large. Strive to be the best that can be and to live up to the size of our founding fathers country saw in you and in its.
